The Henryetta cage squads closed out the regular season with a split decision with the Lady Knights falling by a 62-39 decision and the Knights avoided the road sweep with a 72-45 rout of the host Okemah Panthers in the nightcap.
The next scheduled action for the HHS squads will be this Saturday in the Class 3A, Area II, District 2 tournament against Holdenville. The playoff- opening contest against Holdenville will take place at the Henryetta Event Center with the girls game tipping off at 6 p.m. followed by the boys contest at 7:30 p.m.
Wins on Saturday will put the Henryetta cage squads into the winner’s bracket of next week’s regional tournament at Kellyville High School, while losses to Holdenville will put the Knights and Lady Knights in a ‘must win’ situation at the regional tournament.
In Friday’s girls game at Okemah, the Lady Knights trailed 15-9 after one and 32-15 at halftime.
The Henryetta offense tallied 12 points in each of the final two frames, while Okemah countered with point totals of 20 and 10, respectively, in the second half to hand the Lady Knights the 62-39 setback.
Henryetta’s top scorer at Okemah was Kassidy Lee with a team-high 22 points. Other Lady Knight scorers in the regular-season finale were McKayla Greenhaw with seven and Graci Lollis and Brooklyn Baughman five each.
In Friday’s boys contest, the Knights jumped out to an early double-digit lead after the first eight minutes of action, outscoring the host Panthers 2511 in the opening period.
A 20-14 margin in the second stanza sent the Henryetta squad to the intermission with a 45-25 advantage.
The Knights capped off the dominating victory with margins of 13-10 and 14-10, respectively, in the final two quarters to walk away with the 72-45 decision.
Skylar Greenhaw was one of three Knight players to finish in double figures in the lopsided win, finishing with a team-best 26 points. Nick Hudson and Jordan Short joined Greenhaw in double-digit scoring at Okemah with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Other HHS scorers in the road win were Maverix Randleman with six, Will Perez and Jacob Nail five each, Austin Palmer three, and Hunter Gobin two.
