The Tigers and Lady Tigers finished the regular season with a pair of double-digit losses to the host Liberty Tigers and Lady Tigers.
The Wilson ladies began Tuesday’s road trip with a 60-46 defeat, while the Wilson gentlemen were unable to avoid the sweep, falling by a 60-42 margin in the nightcap.
The Wilson cage squads began postseason play this weekend at the Class B, Area III, District 5 tournament at Macomb High School with the Lady Tigers battling the Mason Lady Eagles Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in an elimination game. A win Thursday over Mason will put the Wilson ladies into Saturday’s 6 p.m. district title game against the winner of Thursday’s other elimination game between Sasakwa and Macomb, while a loss Thursday will bring the Lady Tigers’ season to a close.
The Tigers will begin their playoff journey Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the Sasakwa Vikings in an elimination game. A win over Sasakwa will put the Wilson gentlemen into Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. district championship contest against the winner of Thursday’s other elimination game between Mason and Macomb. A loss Thursday will end the Tigers’ sea- son.
In Tuesday’s girls contest at Liberty Mounds, the visitors trailed 20-12 after one and 30-21 at halftime. The host Lady Tigers extended their lead to 44-29 with a 14-8 advantage in the third quarter, while the Wilson ladies attempted to overcome the huge deficit in the final frame, but only managed a 17-16 margin in the final eight minutes of regulation to wind up on the losing end of a 60-46 outcome.
Janelle Proctor had the hot hand offensively for Wilson on Tuesday, finishing with a team-best 24 points. Brooklyn Weeks joined Proctor in double figures with 10. Other Lady Tiger scorers in the regular-season finale were Jayda Pinkston and Kailee Branson with four each, Gracie Bear three, and Kaozong Yang one.
In Tuesday’s boys game at Liberty Mounds, the visiting Tigers came out of the opening frame with a 13-10 advantage. Liberty Mounds deadlocked the score at 25-25 at haltime following a 15-12 magin in the second period.
The host Tigers took an 8-point (43-35) lead into the final stanza after taking the third quarter 18-10, then handed the Wilson gentlemen the 18-point defeat with a 17-7 margin in the final stanza.
Keshon Shelburn was tops offensively for Wilson with 15, followed by Charles Shelburn with 11. Peyton Proctor just missed double-digit scoring with nine, while Ryder Herring was next for the visiting Tigers with three. Nick Williams and Christian McKinney rounded out the Wilson scoring with two points each.
