The final home opponent for the Tigers and Lady Tigers was the Eagles and Lady Eagles of Butner High School.
The host Lady Tigers began the home finale with a 58-22 victory, while the Tigers completed the sweep with an 88-21 decision in the nightcap.
The Wilson cage squads closed out their regular-season schedule Tuesday at Liberty-Mounds High School and will begin postseason play this weekend at Macomb High School.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to battle the Mason Lady Eagles in an elimination game Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Class B, Area II, District 5 tournament. A win over Mason will put the Wilson ladies into Saturday’s 6 p.m. district tournament title game against the winner of the other elimination game between the host Macomb Lady Hornets and Sasawka. A loss to Mason on Thursday will bring the Lady Tigers’ 2022-2023 season to a close.
The Tigers will begin postseason play Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the Sasakwa Vikings in an elimination game in the Class B, Area II, District 5 tournament. A win over Sasakwa will put the Wilson gentlemen into Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. district tournament title game against the winner of the other elimination game between the host Macomb Hornets and Mason. A loss to Sasakwa on Thursday will bring the Tigers’ 2022-2023 season to an abrupt end.
In Friday’s girls meeting with Butner, the Lady Tigers began the contest with a 14-0 advantage in the opening frame, then outscored the visitors 18-7 in the second stanza for a 32-7 lead at the halftime break.
The Wilson squad put the finishing touches on the 36-point victory with margins of 14-10 and 12-5, respectively, in the final two quarters.
The top scorer for the Lady Tigers in Friday’s home finale was Janelle Proctor with a game-high 20 points. Brooklyn Weeks also finished in double figures against Butner with a 10-point performance.
Other Lady Tiger scorers on Friday were Kailee Branson and Kaozong Yang with six each, Jaslene Proctor and Gracie Bear five apiece, Jayda Pinkston four, and Marah Shanks two.
In Friday’s boys showdown with Butner, the Tigers took the opening period 23-4, then outscored the Eagles 31-2 in the second stanza for a commanding 54-6 advantage at the intermission.
The Wilson gentlemen increased their lead to 71-8 with a 17-2 margin in the third quarter, then completed the one-sided victory with a 17-13 advantage in the final eight minutes of regulation.
The duo of Peyton Proctor and Charles Shelburn led the balanced offensive attack for the victorious Tigers with 13 points each. Other double-digit scorers against Butner were Austin Winn with 12 and Keshon Shelburn 11. Aiden Barnard just missed double figures for the Tigers with nine points.
Other scorers for Wilson in the home finale were Ryder Herring with six, Christian McKinney, Tepoyv Williams, Talon Dobson, and Andrew Wilson five apiece and Nick Williams and Adrian Sebree two each.
