The Lady Knights dropped the opening contest by a 39-20 margin to the host Eufaula Lady Ironheads, while the Knights avoided the road sweep with a hard-fought 64-61 victory over the Ironheads in the nightcap.
The Henryetta cage squads will return to the hardwood this weekend with road trips to Kellyville (Friday) and Vian (Saturday), respectively.
In Tuesday’s girls game at Eufaula, the Lady Knights sputtered offensively in the first two quarters, tallying just three points in the first half. Eufaula put up 16 points in the first period, then added seven points in the second stanza to take a 23-3 lead into the halftime break.
The Henryetta squad took the third quarter by a 10-4 margin to cut the deficit to 27-13 with eight minutes remaining in regulation.
The Lady Knights were unable to complete the second-half rally attempt in the final frame, as the Henryetta ladies were outscored 12-7 in the stanza to end up on the short end of a 39-20 decision.
Kassidy Lee was tops offensively for Henryetta in the contest with seven points. Other Lady Knight scorers Tuesday at Eufaula were McKayla Greenhaw with six, Brooklyn Baughman five, and Graci Lollis two.
In Tuesday’s boys contest, the Knights came out of a high-scoring first period with a 19-16 advantage, then took the second stanza by an 1815 margin to lead 37-31 at halftime.
Eufaula cut the Henryetta lead in half (48-45) following a 14-11 advantage in the third quarter.
The host Ironheads put up 16 points in the final frame in a rally attempt. The Knights countered with 16 points of their own in the final eight minutes of regulation to walk away with the narrow 64-61 victory.
The Henryetta squad was led in scoring by Nick Hudson and Skylar Greenhaw with 14 points apiece. Jordan Short (11) and Austin Palmer (10) also reached double figures for the Knights in the road win.
Other Henryetta scorers on Tuesday were Will Perez with six, Hunter Gobin five, and Jacob Nail four.
