The host Lady Dragons picked up their 11th win of the season in Monday’s opening contest, defeating the visiting Lady Panthers by a 4832 decision.
In the nightcap, the Dragons were unable to contain Glencoe senior Jaken Weedn in the boys contest, falling to the defending Class B state champion Panthers by an 8951 margin. Weedn had the hot hand offensively for the visitors, who are coached by former Okemah and Preston coach Jeff Weedn, finishing with a game-high 51-point peformance, which included knocking down 11 3-point baskets in the contest.
The Dewar cage squads will return to action Friday at home against the Gore Pirates and Lady Pirates, beginning with girls action at 6:30 p.m. Friday’s boys contest at Dewar will tip off at approximately 8 p.m.
In Monday’s girls game, the Lady Dragons took the opening period by a 12-3 margin, while Glencoe doubled up the host Dewar squad 10-5 in the second stanza to send the roundball battle to the intermission with the host Lady Dragons in front by four, 1713.
The final two quarters went in favor of the Dewar ladies by margins of 13-9 and 1810, respectively, to award the Lady Dragons the 48-32 victory - Dewar’s ninth in the last 11 games.
Bre Harvell had the hot hand offensively for the victorious Dewar squad, as the sophomore guard finished with a game-high 26 points, which included eight 3-point baskets. Ally Burney and Melanie Burney were next in the Dewar scoring with seven points each, followed by Maikya Carter with six and Laynie Taylor two.
In Monday’s boys contest, the Dragons trailed 15-9 after one and 33-25 at halftime. The visitors came out of the third quarter with a 36-12 advantage to extend their lead to 69-37 with eight minutes remaining in regulation.
The Dragons were unable to overcome the large deficit in the final stanza, being outscored 2014 in the period to suffer the 8951 defeat.
Ishmael Stewart led the way offensively for Dewar with a team-best 17 points. Stewart was joined in double figures by Kyler Horsford with 11. The remaining scorers for the Dragons on Monday were Jeron Brison with eight, Skelly Taylor five, Tryton Mack four, Jake Finley three, and Sam Fowler two.
