The visitors from Okmulgee County left the McIntosh County school’s gym floor with a pair of double-digit victories.
The Dewar Lady Dragons pushed their season record to 7-5 with a 66-47 win in Friday’s opening contest, while the Dewar Dragons completed the road sweep by defeating the host Hanna Dragons by a 65-43 margin to increase their season record to a 10-2 mark.
The Dewar cage squads were back in action Tuesday evening with a trip to Mounds for a showdown with the Mounds Golden Eagles and Lady Eagles and will finish this week’s busy schedule with showdowns against Davenport Thursday in Preston, Webbers Falls Friday at Webbers Falls, and Schulter Saturday in Henryetta. The meetings with Davenport and Schulter are part of the Small School portion of the 2023 Muscogee Nation Invitational Tournament.
In Friday’s girls game at Hanna, both teams tallied 17 points in the first eight minutes of action, while the visitors from Dewar took the middle two quarters by margins of 17-6 and 17-8, respectively, for a 51-31 advantage, heading into the final stanza, where Hanna edged the visitors 16-15 to make the final outcome 6647 in favor of the Dewar Lady Dragons.
Ally Burney was the top scorer for Dewar, finishing with a game-high 28 points. The duo of Melanie Burney and Maikya Carter also reached double figures in the road win with 15 points apiece.
Bre Harvell and Laynie Taylor rounded out the Lady Dragon scoring with six and two points, respectively.
In Friday’s boys contest, the visitors came out of the opening period with a narrow 16-14 advantage, then outscored the host Dragons 19-12 in the second stanza for a 35-26 halftime lead.
The Dewar gentlemen took the final two frames by margins of 16-7 and 14-10, respectively, to complete the decisive 65-43 victory.
Ishmael Stewart led the way offensively for Dewar, finishing with a team-best 28 points. Skelly Taylor joined Stewart in double-digit scoring in the win with 15 points.
Other Dewar scorers at Hanna were Jeron Brison with six, Tryton Mack four, Cole Miller and Cash Faulkner three each, and Kyler Horsford, Ben Atoigue, and Seth Hudson two apiece.
