Dewar and Wilson renewed their hardwood rivalry Monday evening at the Clell W. Henson Fieldhouse in Dewar.

The host Dragons and Lady Dragons emerged from the county cage doubleheader with a pair of double-digit victories with the Dewar ladies beginning Monday’s showdown with a 52-39 decision over the visiting Wilson Lady Tigers, while the Dewar gentlemen capped off the home sweep by defeating their county rivals 72-58 in the nightcap.

Dewar was back home Tuesday evening, taking on Butner and are scheduled to travel to Hanna on Friday evening.

Wilson was scheduled to host Hanna on Tuesday, but that contest was canceled for an unknown reason. The Tigers and Lady Tigers are scheduled to host Midway on Friday evening at the Tiger Den.

In Monday’s girls county battle in Dewar, the Lady Dragons came out of the opening frame with a narrow 13-12 advantage. The Dewar ladies outscored the Lady Tigers 12-7 in the second stanza for a 2519 lead at halftime, then took the final two quarters by margins of 14-8 and 13-12, respectively, for the 52-39 decision.

The Lady Dragons were led in scoring by Bre Harvell, who finished with a game-high 22 points. All but one of Harvell’s scoring came from long range, as the Dewar guard knocked down seven of the team’s 10 total 3-point baskets in the contest.

Harvell was joined in double figures by Melanie Burney with 12 points, while Maikya Carter and Ally Burney just missed double-digit scoring for the Dewar ladies with nine and eight points, respectively. Victoria Hill’s free throw in the second period accounted for the only other point for the Lady Dragons on Monday.

Janelle Proctor and Brooklyn Weeks were tops offensively for the Lady Tigers with 11 points each.

Other Wilson scorers in the county battle were Kaozong Yang with six, Jaslene Proctor five, Jayda Pinkston four, and Gracie Bear two.

In Monday’s boys contest in Dewar, the host Drag- ons came out of the opening period with a 15-4 margin. The visiting Tigers took the back-and-forth second quarter by an 18-15 advantage to send the county squads to the halftime break with Dewar in front by eight, 30-22.

Dewar extended its lead to 18 (5234) after outscoring its county rivals 22-12 in the third stanza.

The visitors attempted to overcome the double-digit deficit in the final frame, putting up 24 points in the last eight minutes of regulation.

The Dragons countered with 20 points in the period to walk off their home floor with the 72-58 victory.

Ishmael Stewart (24) and Charles Shelburn (19) led the way offensively for their respective teams in the county showdown.

Joining Stewart in double figures for the Dragons were John Rex with 11 and Jeron Brison 10.

Keshon Shelburn and Ryder Herring also tallied double-digit scoring for the Tigers with 17 and 14, respectively.

Other Dewar scorers on Monday were Tryton Mack with eight, Cole Miller and Skelly Taylor seven each, and Kyler Horsford five.

The Tigers’ remaining scoring came on five points by Nick Williams and three points by Andrew Wilson.
