The host Henryetta squads found themselves on the losing end of a pair of outcomes Tuesday evening with the Lady Knights remaining winless on the season (0-6) with a 49-32 setback in the opening contest, while the Knights (ranked 19th in Class 3A) fell to 4-2 on the campaign in the nightcap with a 64-55 defeat.
The Knights and Lady Knights were back in action this weekend, hosting their annual basketball tournament - the Henryetta Invitational.
In Tuesday’s girls contest, the Lady Knights struggled offensively in the first eight minutes of action, being blanked 12-0 in the period.
The Henryetta ladies found their offense in the second quarter, tallying 13 points in the frame. Kellyville tallied nine points in the stanza to send the teams to their respective locker room with the visitors leading by eight, 21-13.
The Lady Knights attempted to overcome the halftime deficit in the second half, but were outscored by margins of 11-7 and 17-12, respectively, to suffer the 49-32 setback.
The duo of Kassidy Lee and McKayla Greenhaw were tops offensively for Henryetta in the loss, finishing with 10 points each. Other Lady Knight scorers on Tuesday were Brooklyn Baughman with six, Allana Lawrence four, and Graci Lollis two.
In the Knights’ showdown Tuesday with Kellyville, the visitors took the opening frame by a 20-12 margin. After the Ponies increased their lead to 23-12 in the early stages of the second quarter, the Knights went on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to three, 23-20.
Kellyville closed out the first half with a 10-0 run to send the teams to the halftime break with the visitors in front by 13 points, 33-20.
Kellyville extended its lead to 51-33 after an 18-13 advantage in the third period, then the host Henryetta squad attempted to overcome the huge deficit in the final stanza, but was only able to manage a 9-point advantage, 22-13, in the frame to wind up on the short end of a 64-55 decision.
Skylar Greenhaw led the Knight scoring with a team-best 19 points. Nick Hudson was next for Henryetta with 18, followed by Jordan Short with 13. Hunter Gobin and Jacob Nail rounded out the Knight offense on Tuesday with three and two points, respectively.
