Tournament Time: Round 2

This weekend will see seven of the eight Okmulgee County basketball programs compete at various tournaments.

This weekend will see seven of the eight Okmulgee County basketball programs compete at various tournaments.

Okmulgee is the only county school to not compete in a tournament this weekend. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs opened the second-half portion of their 2022-2023 schedule on Monday at home against Hilldale and will travel to Hugo on Friday for a showdown with the Hugo Buffaloes and Lady Buffaloes.

The first tournament this weekend to feature county schools will be the Henryetta Invitational Basketball Tournament, where the host Knights and Lady Knights and the Beggs Golden Demons and Lady Demons, battle six other schools for the tournament championships.

The other tournaments that will feature county cage squads this weekend are as follows:

• Mike Kerr Classic (Morrison) - Preston

• Jeff Hart Memorial Coliseum Classic (Lawton) - Dewar

• Warner Eagle Cherokee Classic - Morris

• Graham-Dustin Chieftain Classic - Schulter

• Jim Walling Classic (Earlsboro) - Wilson The Preston cage squads’ first obstacles toward the championship trophies at the Mike Kerr Classic will be the Chouteau-Mazie Wildcats and Lady Wildcats. The Lady Pirates will open tournament play Thursday at 4:20 p.m., followed by the Pirates’ opening-round game at 5:40 p.m.

At the Jeff Hart Memorial Coliseum Classic, the Lady Dragons’ first tournament opponent will be the Cement Lady Bulldogs Thursday at 4:20 p.m., while the Dragons’ opening-round game Thursday will take place at 5:40 p.m. against the Navajo Indians.

The Morris Lady Eagles will begin tournament play at the Warner Eagle Cherokee Classic Thursday at 1 p.m. against the Wilburton Lady Diggers. The Morris Eagles will open tournament action Thursday in Warner against the host Warner Eagles at 8:30 p.m.

At the Graham-Dustin Chieftain Classic, the Schulter Lady Bulldogs will open tournament play Thursday at 1 p.m. against the Wayne Lady Bulldogs, while the Schulter Bulldogs begin tournament action Thursday at 11:30 a.m. against the Porum Panthers.

The final county team to compete at a tournament this weekend will be the Wilson Tigers and Lady Tigers.

The Wilson cage squads’ first-round foes at the Jim Walling Classic in Earlsboro will be the Stuart Hornets and Lady Hornets in the opening games of the tournament Thursday at 10 a.m. and 11:20 a.m., respectively.
