The Preston varsity basketball program took the season series with Oklahoma Union following a road sweep this past Friday evening in South Coffeyville.

Friday’s trip to Oklahoma Union High School concluded the first-half portion of the Preston cage squads’ regular-season schedule.

The Lady Pirates began Friday’s road sweep with an 87-12 victory in the opening contest, while the Pirates ended the evening with a 53-38 decision in the nightcap.

The Preston cage squads will head into the 2-week holiday break with identical 6-2 records and will return to action January 3 with a trip to Morris for a county showdown with the Morris Eagles and Lady Eagles.

In Friday’s girls game at Oklahoma Union, the Lady Pirates led wire-towire, blanking the host Lady Cougars 24-0 in the first period, then outscored their foes 18-4 in the second stanza for a commanding 42-4 halftime lead.

The Preston ladies took the final two frames by a combined 47-8 margin, including a 29-0 advantage in the third quarter, to walk away with the 75-point win.

Five Lady Pirates finished in double figures in the road win, led by the duo of Taylan Starr and Savannah King with 14 points apiece. Other double- digit scorers for the Preston ladies in the road win were Adrianne Wilson with 12 and Emilie Stidman and Jadyn Roberts 11 each.

The remaining Lady Pirate scorers last Friday were Heaven Fuller with eight, Shaunassi Jordan five, and Ashlynn Foster, Faith Ford, and Josie Cope four apiece.

In last Friday’s boys contest, the Pirates jumped out to a 14-2 advantage after one quarter of action. The visitors went into the intermission in front by a 29-12 margin after outscoring the host Cougars 15-10 in the second stanza.

The Pirates extended their lead to 45-21 after three periods of play following a 16-9 advantage in the third.

Oklahoma Union came out of the final frame with a 17-8 margin, but it was the visitors from Preston walking off the court with the 53-38 decision.

Jervais Goree, who reached the 1,000-point plateau in the contest, led all scorers with a game-high 27 points. Malachi Ligons and Tucker Webb just missed double-digit scoring in the road win with nine and eight, respectively, while the other Preston scorers were Keyton Smith with five and Markel Holloway and Jayden Smith two each.
