For the second-straight game, Henryetta’s Skylar Greenhaw proved to be the difference for the Knights.

Last Saturday, Greenhaw made a pair of free throws with 1.2 seconds left to help the Knights defeat Hilldale 57-55 in the third-place game at the Okemah Tournament.

Three days later, the sophomore guard made both ends of a 1-and-1 foul situation with 8.7 seconds left to put the finishing touches on Henryetta’s 57-54 home win against the Vian Wolverines.

The Knights go into the Holiday Break with a 4-1 record with the last three wins not being decided until the final seconds of regulation.

In Tuesday’s opening contest at the Henryetta Event Center, the host Henryetta Lady Knights watched an early lead turn into a 37-20 setback to keep the Henryetta ladies winless (0-5) heading into the Holiday Break.

After taking a two-week break to celebrate the holidays, the Henryetta cage squads will kick off the second-half of their regular-season schedule January 3 at home against Kellyville.

In Tuesday’s girls game, the host Lady Knights came out of the opening frame with a narrow 9-6 advantage.

The Henryetta ladies went scoreless in the second stanza, while the visitors tallied seven points in the quarter for a 13-9 lead at the intermission.

Vian took the third period by a 7-3 margin to double its lead to eight, 20-12, heading into the final eight minutes of regulation.

The Lady Knights attempted to overcome the deficit in the final frame, but were outscored 17-8 in the quarter to suffer the 37-20 setback.

Kassidy Lee was tops offensively for Henryetta on Tuesday, finishing with 11 points.

Other Lady Knight scorers against Vian were McKayla Greenhaw with four, Allana Lawrence three, and Brooklyn Baughman two.

In Tuesday’s boys contest, the Knights escaped the first period with a narrow 13-11 advantage, then took the second stanza 18-12 for a 31-23 halftime lead.

Both teams tallied 17 points in a back-and-forth third quarter to send the hardwood battle to the final period with the host Knights still leading by eight, 48-40.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Henryetta squad led 55-51 when Vian’s Yonsi Grass knocked down a 3-pointer at the 1:07 mark to trim the Knight lead to one, 55-54.

The Henryetta squad attempted to extend its lead after the made basket, but missed a scoring chance with the visitors snaring the rebound.

Vian worked the clock down, looking for a possible go-ahead score.

With 11.7 seconds left in regulation, Vian head coach John Mays called his final timeout, setting up a play for a game-winning scoring opportunity.

After the timeout, a Wolverine player was fouled with 10.5 seconds remaining, giving the visitors a chance at taking the lead at the charity stripe.

The Vian shooter missed the front end of a 1-and-1 opportunity with Henryetta coming away with the rebound.

With 8.7 seconds left in regulation, Greenhaw was fouled and went to the free-throw line with the chance to extend the Knights’ lead.

The sophomore guard calmly sank both ends of a 1-and-1 situation to put the host Henryetta squad ahead by three, 57-54.

Henryetta head coach Bunyan Johnson called a timeout following Greenhaw’s second made free throw to discuss defensive strategy with his team.

Vian quickly moved the ball down the court and attempted a game-tying 3-point shot, but the attempt was just off the mark. The Wolverines were able to grab the offensive rebound and attempted to get off another shot before the buzzer, but never got the chance, as Vian turned the ball over with 0.7 seconds remaining.

The Knights inbounded the ball and ran out the remaining time off the clock to walk away with the 57-54 victory.

Greenhaw led all scorers with a game-high 23 points. Nick Hudson also reached double figures for the Knights with a 16-point performance.

The trio of Austin Palmer, Hunter Gobin, and Will Perez were next offensively for Henryetta with
