After Lance Beck was relieved of his duties at the conclusion of the 2021 campaign, the Henryetta Athletic Department and Board of Education conducted a search for a new head football coach.
In a special meeting this past Friday morning, Russell Cook was named the new head coach of the Henryetta Golden Knight football program.
Coach Cook, with 15-plus years of coaching experience under his belt, will be taking over a Henryetta varsity football team that finished the 2021 campaign with a 2-8 record and a sixth-place finish in District 2A-7 with a 2-5 district record.
Prior to coming to Henryetta, Cook spent last year as the offensive line coach at Bartlesville High School and has also spent time at Prague (2006-2010), Pawnee, Cushing (2012-2013), and Hartshorne (2011), serving as Pawnee’s head coach from 2013-2020 and guiding the Black Bears to postseason appearances in four of his final five seasons, including the semifinals in 2019.
Beck took over for Darin Johnson in 2019 and recorded a 6-22 record in his three seasons at the helm of the Knights gridiron program.
