History is continuing to be made in Waco this week as Green Country Little League Team Oklahoma has officially clinched a spot in the Little League World Series in Greenville, North Carolina set to begin August 11.
In a close 7-5 game Wednesday against Robinson Little League, the Texas - West team, Team Oklahoma sealed their spot at the World Series. The win Wednesday was the second win for Team Oklahoma at the Little League Softball Southwest Regional Tournament in Waco, Texas.
Monday, the team faced off against Team New Mexico out of West Mesa, New Mexico with an early victory called in the third inning as a 15-0 run rule decision.
Their victory Wednesday resulted in Texas - West facing Eastbank Little League from Kenner, Louisiana. The final saw Texas - West on the winning side of the 2-0 game. With the Texas - West win, Team Oklahoma had a rematch to determine first and second place finishers in the Regional Tournament. That game took place Thursday at 10 a.m. with the final decision coming after press time.
The 12U GCLL team is coached by Johnny Hutchens. “We have done it! We are the first softball team from the State to make it to the Little League World Series.”
Coach Hutchens said he could not be more proud of his team and the work they have put in to get where they are.
