Morris High School senior Charie Barnett accomplished a pair of rare feats this past basketball season.

The 5-foot, 10-inch forward recorded her 1,500th point in her high school basketball career, then, one game later, pulled down her 1,000th career rebound.

“I think it’s pretty awesome,” Barnett said, about reaching the two milestones. “I didn’t know I was that close because he (Morris head coach Ty Allen) didn’t tell me until the game before. It’s pretty great.”

When Barnett stepped onto the basketball court at Preston on December 4, 2020, the Morris standout was 280 points and 173 rebounds shy of accomplishing these two rare feats.

At an average of 17 points and 10 rebounds per game entering her senior campaign, it would take about 17 games for Barnett to reach both milestones, which meant, at the earliest, the Morris cage standout would capture those milestones either February 2 at Kellyville or February 5 at Warner.

The season was going along smoothly for Barnett and the Lady Eagles and it appeared the milestones would be met in the first week of February. After a January 21 home meeting with Dewar, the Morris cage squad took the court only twice prior to the postseason due to games being canceled for COVID-19 protocols.

With the Lady Eagles missing seven of their last nine scheduled games in the regular season, Barnett would have to accomplish these career milestones sometime during the postseason.

Barnett entered the Class 3A playoffs needing just 39 points and 40 rebounds to accomplish the achievements.

After a thrilling 50-48 Morris victory over Claremore Sequoyah in the district championship game, Barnett closed the gap a little bit more and entered the Class 3A regional tournament needing just 21 points and 29 rebounds to accomplish the exceptional feats.

The Lady Eagles suffered a heartbreaking 48-46 defeat to the Hugo Lady Buffaloes in the winner’s bracket semi finals of the regional tournament and put their season in jeopardy of ending in the regional tournament for the second-straight year. Despite the loss, Barnett achieved one of her milestones, scoring a team-best 22 points and claiming her 1,500th career point with her final basket in the fourth quarter.

The Morris senior entered the consolation semifinals against Spiro determined to not have her high school basketball career end at the regional tournament and helped guide the Lady Eagles to four-straight victories and put the Morris cage squad one win away from capturing a state tournament berth.

During the Lady Eagles’ 49-27 drubbing of Vian in the regional consolation finals on February 27, Barnett, who finished with a game-high 23 points, pulled down her 1,000th career rebound.

Barnett’s high school basketball career sadly came to a close March 6, 2021, when the Lady Eagles suffered another heartbreaking loss to the Hugo Lady Buffaloes, 37-35, in the consolation finals of the Class 3A area tournament.

For her career, Barnett finished with 1,597 points and 1,040 rebounds.

Barnett’s senior season totals are as follows:
