On August 3, the Rowan Fund did something that we have never done before. We had a fashion show.
At first, the idea sounded fun and exciting, but this was quickly followed by a feeling of doubt. What had I gotten us into?
I’ve never put on a fashion show. What if no one comes? What if people don’t think this is cool like I do? And the questions just continued to ramble on in my head.
Eventually I did a mental “slap to the ‘ol anxiety” and decided to just have fun with the event. That was ultimately the best choice.
The Rowan Fund Board had so much fun planning for the event and felt a sense of pride when it was over. The day went off without a hitch! And yes, people came to the show!
You want to know the best part? There was a couple in the audience that came up to me afterward and expressed their desire to be foster parents. Two minutes later they were connected with a DHS Foster Care recruiter who had a table at the show! That’s what it’s all about folks.
I’d like to take the opportunity to express gratitude for the people, individuals and organizations that helped to make the show a success. I’ll list them here.
If you would, the next time you see them would you tell them thank you for supporting Okmulgee County foster and adoptive parents?
