HENRYETTA - The 2018 varsity football season for the Henryetta Golden Knights came to a close last Friday night at historic Cameron Field.

The season finale did not feature the outcome the Knights were hoping for last Friday, suffering a 57-0 setback to the visiting Meeker Bulldogs.

The loss to Meeker was the second shutout defeat for the Henryetta squad this season, as the Knights fell to Jones in Week 8 by a 55-0 margin.

Last Friday's loss to Meeker was also the final high school football game at HHS for seven players. Those seven players suiting up for the final time in the Gold and Black of the Henryetta football program were Daniel Bear, Jeremiah Boyles, Austen Macaluso, Jordan Hart, Colten Wion, Deontay Parker, and Jeffery Melendez. An eighth 2018 senior member of the HHS football team was honored during the Senior Nite festivities prior to kickoff.

The 2018 campaign would have been the senior season for Nathan George, who lost his battle with Burkitt's Lymphoma, a type of NON-Hodgkins Lymphoma, on March 29, 2017.

In last Friday's season finale against Meeker, the Knights were limited to just 174 yards of total offense on 54 plays. The Henryetta offense rushed for 83 yards on 24 carries and completed 10 of 30 passes for 91 yards with three interceptions.

The Knight defense gave up a total of 463 yards in the season finale on just 26 plays. Meeker rushed 20 times for 287 yards and 7 TDs and completed 4 of 6 passes for 176 yards and one score.

Meeker tallied three scores in each of the first two quarters for a 42-0 halftime advantage, then added two more touchdowns in the third quarter to complete the 57-point scoring total.

The Knights finish the 2018 campaign with a 1-9 record, 0-6 in District 2-2, and an 8-game losing streak.

Meeker opened last Friday's contest with a 2-yard scamper by Caden Wolford at the 8:16 mark of the opening quarter.

Dakota Gabbert's 29-yard TD run and Wolford's conversion reception from Jacob Martin with 3:04 left in the first pushed the Meeker lead to 14-0.

The final first quarter tally for the visitors came on a 22-yard run by Wolford and successful conversion run by Xavier Masquas at the 1:41 mark.

Martin connected with Jarrett Marks on a 78-yard TD pass with 9:49 left in the first half, then hooked up with Dawson Stanberry on the conversion attempt to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 30-0.

A 42-yard run by Wolford at 7:05 and a 1-yard run by Martin at 1:07 in the second quarter sent the teams to the halftime break with the host Knights trailing 42-0.

Meeker opened the second-half scoring with a 60-yard TD run by Marks just 36 seconds into the third quarter. Wolford crossed the goal line on the conversion attempt to push the deficit to 50-0.

Zach Cook capped off the 8-touchdown night for the visiting Bulldogs with a 27-yard TD run at 5:02 in the third. Michael Jessup toed the extra-point kick to put the finishing touches on the 57-0 outcome.
