Henryetta High School Senior, Daniel Bear, was recently named Muscogee Creek Nation (MCN) Athlete of the Month.

Bear has had a love of basketball since he was little when he used to watch his favorite player of all time, Michael Jordan.

“I used to watch highlights and my dad would talk to me about him a lot. We would watch him play in the NBA. I strive to be just like him some day (Jordan),” Bear said.

After high school, Bear plans to major in Business and receive a degree while also playing college sports.

According to a recent VYPE Oklahoma interview with Bear, it was asked of him what words of wisdom he would like to pass on to younger student athletes.

Bear responded, “Have fun while you’re in school. It is going to fly by before you know it and then you’re already planning to graduate. Play every game like it’s your last because you never know what the future holds. Always give 110 percent.”

HHS STEM Director and high school computer teacher Kathy Snyder said that even though Bear is very athletic and worthy of being Athlete of the Month, he also demonstrates many qualities wished of all athletes.

“He never gives up on the court or field, always gives 100 percent and is a good role model for younger students. He is always very pleasant to be around. I have never seen Daniel get upset with anyone - on or off the court. He gets along well with faculty and students and works well in groups or on his own,” Snyder said.

HHS Head Football Coach Darin Johnson said, “Daniel is a great kid with a big heart and a great smile. He leads by example and we are fortunate to have him as a part of our program.”

Bear was recently a candidate for the Henryetta All-School Homecoming in softball.
