Bryan Larison, Director of the Oklahoma Lions Boys Ranch and Meadows of Hope, was the guest speaker at the Oct. 10 Henryetta Lions Club meeting.
He spoke about the program and it’s success with helping foster children throughout the state.
Larison said the program can make a tremendous impact on Henryetta and the surrounding communities. There are currently 125 children in foster care in Okmulgee County.
“The program exists to keep brothers and sisters together in foster care. The level of courage it takes to foster is uncommon and we do have many great foster providers,” Larison said.
According to Larison, the service delivery of the Boys Ranch was changed to Meadows of Hope with the increase of female children in foster care.
Meadows of Hope board members consist of Lions Club members from across the state.
Larison presented a slide show during his presentation.
Before completing his discussion, Larison encouraged Lions members to become “Champions for Children" by making donations. He presented a flyer to all in attendance.
Tail Twister was led by Ashley Morris and was weather-related due to the downpour on that day. She told all members who were in or had “rain gear” that they would avoid a fine. All other members who weren’t prepared for the weather had to pay $1.
During the Sunshine Report, Sherri Crosby announced the birth of her first grandchild, Harper Olivia, who was born last Wednesday. Kyle Kiner attended the Henryetta Elementary School Variety Show where he had a lot of fun and enjoyed “The Monster Mash” performance. He also announced that he and Donnie Smith had played in the Methodist Church Golf Tournament where money was raised for a campground east of Tahlequah. The Fowlers said they enjoyed seeing their granddaughter cheer in Holdenville.
Mary Wagner briefly discussed the recent cabinet meeting in which 17 Lions members in the district attended. Of those attending were Henryetta Lions LouAnne Smith and Corbet Witham. She said leaders announced that the newsletter would be switched from print to email format in order to save money.
Minutes of the Oct. 2 Lions Club meeting were approved.
Before closing the meeting, Lions President Grant Jenson wanted to thank the City of Henryetta for waiving the rental and deposit fees for use of the Civic Center for the upcoming pancake breakfast on Saturday.
Next meeting of the Henryetta Lions Club will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
