Four county teams participated in the Kiefer Trojans Cross Country Meet Saturday, September 29. Henryetta, Okmulgee, Beggs and Dewar had runners of all ages competing for the top spots at the meet. In the elementary age group, Beggs dominated with several individuals both boys and girls. High placing runners Gabbie Barnes, who took 7th place in the girls one mile run, and Jackson Barnes, who took 13th for the boys, contributed to Beggs Elementary taking home 5th and 6th overall. Gabbie Barnes came in around 6:51 minutes in the elementary girls one mile run, clocking in behind top placing teams Sand Springs and Lone Star. The next county runner to cross the finish line would be Dewar’s Peyton Cambell. With a time of 7:27, Cambell took home 20th in the Kiefer meet.

Jackson Barnes also faired well against Sapulpa and Sand Springs. He took 13th place after crossing the finish line at 6:25, coming in one second behind Keifer’s Tucker Garden, who took 12th with a time of 6:24.

Okmulgee Bulldog Jayden Watkins led the county teams in the high school division. Watkins outpaced his opponents for 7th place in the boys 5k run with a time of 17:03, defeating Metro Christian Academy’s Caleb Cain by a margin of six seconds. Austin Green, representing Henryetta, was the next county runner to cross the finish line, coming in 48th with a time of 19:05. Beggs High School’s boys track team, despite having runners come in around the 21 minute mark, took 13th in the overall team results in the boys two mile run with 350 points and an overall time of 1:45:44.

The girls cross country teams also placed high at Kiefer Trojans Cross Country Meet. Okmulgee’s Faith Montgomery was the first county runner to cross the finish line. Montgomery clocked in at 13:28 to take 15th place and she was closely followed by Okmulgee Lady Bulldog Reign Flowers, who took 18th with a time of 13:39. Henryetta’s Jenna Berryhill and Bayleigh Nye crossed the finish line next to take 41st and 51st place.
