HENRYETTA - The Wilson Tigers made history last Thursday evening in their home game against the Sasakwa Vikings.
The Week 4 showdown at Tiger Field was the first district football game in school history for the host Tigers.
The first-ever district game for the Wilson squad did not go the way they had hoped, dropping the district opener by a 60-28 margin.
The Tigers will look for their first district win this Friday with a trip to Paoli for a District C-4 battle with the Paoli Pugs.
Kickoff for Friday's district game against Paoli is set for 7:30 p.m. in Paoli.
In last Thursday's district opener, the Tigers trailed 44-8 at halftime and outscored the Vikings 20-16 in the final two quarters to suffer the 60-28 setback.
Sasakwa opened the scoring with a 17-yard pass from No. 7 to No. 2 just 19 seconds into the contest.
The Vikings got a 4-yard TD run by No. 7 with 6:21 in the first quarter to double their lead to 12-0. The conversion was successful as No. 7 connected with No. 12 on a pass attempt, pushing the score to 14-0.
The Tigers broke up the shutout bid with an 18-yard TD run by Cobey Sellers at the 3:43 mark of the opening quarter. The Wilson quarterback then connected with his brother, Josiah Sellers, on the conversion attempt to cut the deficit to six, 14-8.
Sasakwa regained its 14-point lead when No. 12 returned the ensuing kickoff 58 yards, followed by a successful run by No. 7 at 3:40 of the opening frame for a 22-8 advantage after one quarter of action.
The visitors tallied three scores in the second quarter to extend their lead to 44-8.
The first touchdown took place at 10:18 on a 28-yard pass from No. 7 to No. 2. The conversion was successful on a run by No. 7, pushing the Sasakwa lead to 22 points, 30-8.
The second score by the Vikings in the second stanza came at the 6:45 mark on a 14-yard pass from No. 7 to No. 12. The try for two was unsuccessful to make it a 36-8 advantage for the visitors.
The final Sasakwa touchdown in the second quarter came on a 12-yard run by No. 7. The conversion run by No. 7 was successful to push the Viking lead to 44-8 at the halftime break.
The Tigers opened the second-half scoring with a 78-yard pass from Cobey Sellers to Michael McKinney at 10:32 of the third. McKinney then crossed the goal line on the conversion attempt to make it a 44-16 contest.
Sasakwa made it a 52-16 advantage at the 8:14 mark of the third quarter with a 16-yard run by No. 2. The conversion attempt was successful by No. 2 for a 36-point lead for the visitors.
With eight seconds left in the third, Cobey Sellers connected with Josiah Sellers on a 21-yard TD pass. The pass attempt on the conversion try was no good, making the score at the end of three quarters, 50-22, in favor of Sasakwa.
A 9-yard run by No. 7 at 4:16 of the fourth, followed by a successful conversion run by No. 2 pushed the Viking lead to 60-22.
The Tigers tallied their final score of the contest at 1:21 of the first on a 65-yard pass from Cobey Sellers to Josiah Sellers. The try for two was unsuccessful to make the final outcome, 60-28.
Offensively, the Wilson squad finished with 369 yards of total offense on 40 plays. Most of the Tigers' offensive totals came in the passing department, completing 10 of 24 passes for 272 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.
McKinney was the top rusher for the Tigers in the district opener with 53 yards on 12 carries, while Josiah Sellers was the top receiver for Wilson with four catches for 112 yards and 2 TDs.
