The Dewar Lady Dragon fastpitch softball team split their four games last week to sit at 18-11 on the year.
The Lady Dragons (ranked 16th in Class A) began their four-game schedule last Monday with a 9-0 victory over Stonewall in Kiowa, then suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Class B top-ranked Kiowa later in the evening.
Last Tuesday, the Dewar ladies traveled to Red Oak High School to battle Class B No. 6 Red Oak, dropping the contest by a 3-2 margin.
The Lady Dragons concluded their 4-game schedule last Thursday at home against county foe Morris, defeating the Lady Eagles by an 8-2 margin, behind a 1-hit pitching performance by Skyler Randall.
The Dewar squad returned to action on Monday with a trip to Oktaha and were in Mounds on Tuesday for a regular-season ending meeting with the Mounds Lady Eagles.
The Lady Dragons will begin postseason play this afternoon, hosting Canadian and Weleetka in the Class A district tournament.
The Dewar ladies will take the field at 12:15 p.m. against the loser of Canadian and Weleetka, who will begin the 3-team playoff series at 11 a.m.
Win or lose, the Lady Dragons will then square off against the Weleetka-Candian winner at 1:30 p.m. If the Dewar ladies win their two games, they will then battle either Weleetka or Canadian at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday for a possible district championship. An 'if necessary' game will be played Thursday at 3 p.m. if Dewar were to lose the 2:45 p.m. contest.
If all three teams have one loss each after the first three games are played, Weleetka and Canadian will battle in an elimination game at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday with the winner squaring off against the host Lady Dragons at 3 p.m. Thursday for the district championship.
In last Monday's game against Stonewall, the Lady Dragons broke a scoreless tie with a run in the home half of the second. The Dewar squad added a run in the third, three in the fourth, and four in the fifth to walk away with the 9-0 victory.
Randall went the distance in the circle for Dewar to earn the pitching win. The junior right-hander allowed no runs on four hits, striking out five and walking one in five innings of work.
The top hitter for the Lady Dragons against Stonewall was Savannah Been, who went 3 for 3 with three singles. Other Dewar players with multi-hit games in the shutout win were Morgan Britt (2 for 2, 2 singles) and Noelani Corbin (2 for 4, double, home run, 4 RBIs) with two hits each. Corbin's roundtripper came on a game-ending 2-run blast in the fifth.
The other four base hits for Dewar against Stonewall came on a single by Staejha Mack, a double by Nakea Harjochee, an RBI single by Talyn Been, and an RBI double by Randall.
Other Dewar baserunners in the shutout win were Britt (walk), Randall (walk), Mack (walk), Savannah Been (walk), Autumn Campbell (2 walks), and KiKi Carter (walk).
In Monday's meeting with Kiowa, the lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the second.
Randall was saddled with the pitching loss for Dewar, allowing one run on six hits, walking three in six innings of work.
Britt led the offensive attack for the Lady Dragons in the loss, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles. The other base hits for Dewar against Kiowa came on singles by Randall, Campbell, and Carter.
The only other Lady Dragon batter to reach base in the loss was Corbin, who reached on a dropped third strike.
In Tuesday's road game at Red Oak, the host Lady Eagles opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second.
Dewar answered with a run in the top of the third to knot the score at 1-1.
Red Oak tallied a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to lead 3-1, while Dewar managed just one run in the top of the sixth to suffer the 3-2 defeat.
Randall absorbed the pitching loss for Dewar, giving up three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts, one walk, and one hit batter in six innings of work.

In last Thursday's county showdown with Morris, the Lady Dragons got the scoring started with three runs in the home half of the second. The Dewar ladies added a run in their half of the third, then tacked on two more in the fifth for a 6-0 advantage.
Morris broke up the shutout bid with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, while Dewar regained its 6-run lead with two runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth.
The Lady Dragon defense kept the visitors off the scoreboard in the top of the seventh to secure the 8-2 victory.
Randall allowed two runs (both unearned) on just one hit - a leadoff single in the sixth, striking out five and walking two in seven innings of work.
