Henryetta High School’s cross country teams placed well at their home meet Saturday at Historic Nichols Park with the girls team taking home 11th, while the boys team outpaced their opponents for eighth place overall in the boys 5k run.
The Lady Knights earned an overall score of 308 in the girls two mile run. Though they were towards the bottom of the pack, the Lady Knights were able to outpace Chelsea, Stuart and Coalgate High School with an overall time of 1:23:16 hours, defeating Chelsea by a close margin. As individuals, the Lady Knights top runner was freshman Alyssa Collett who clocked in during the two mile at 15:44.1 minutes with a mile average of 7:52. Coming in close behind Collett was junior Bayleigh Nye who crossed the finish line at 16:01.9 earning her 61st place out of 143 runners. The rest of the Lady Knights came in around 17 minute mark, including Jenna Berryhill who took 81st, Cheyanne Thomas who took 88, Emily Stockholm who took 99 and Kaylee Watsoon who took 100.
The Knights had a successful boys 5k run with runners coming in near the top of the pack, earning them a total score of 260 and an overall time of 1:52.29 which earned them eighth place. Sophomore Austin Green took the top spot amongst his teammates, crossing the finish line with a time of 19:45. Green took 26th place with his time of 19:45 but just barely missed the 25th spot losing out to Trever Rupert from Kiefer High School by a matter of two seconds. Junior Keaton Lollis wasn’t too far behind Green taking home 35th place with a time of 20:13.8. Much like Green, only seconds separated Lollis from taking 34th against Beggs High School runner Jordan Smith who clocked in at 20:10.7.
The high school runners weren’t the only ones to place well at the meet, the boys junior high runners were able to outpace their opponents for 13th place in the boys junior high mile run. The Knights beat out three Glenpool Junior High runners, who were on their tales to take 35th and 36th place. Justice Warlow and Ethan Goodner outpaced Glenpool by mere seconds. Warlow was the first Knight to cross the finish line with a time of 6:22.4, while Goodner came in right behind Warlow with a time of 6:23.3.
