The Henryetta Lady Knight varsity fastpitch softball team improved to 8-4 on the year with back-to-back wins over arch rival Morris in a span of four days.
The first win for the Lady Knights over the Lady Eagles came this past Friday in Morris by a 10-2 margin. The regular-season sweep for the Henryetta squad came on Monday evening at home, defeating their rivals 6-4.
Prior to the sweep of Morris, the Henryetta softball squad dropped a 9-3 decision at Kellyville last Thursday.
The Lady Knights were back in action on Tuesday with a doubleheader meeting with the Sperry Lady Pirates. The Henryetta squad will conclude this week's schedule at the Eufaula Tournament Thursday-Saturday.
In last Thursday's road trip to Kellyville, the Lady Knights opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first. Kellyville knotted the score at 1-1 with a run in the home half of the third, then took the lead at 4-1 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Henryetta pushed across two runs in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to one, 4-3, then the host Lady Ponies plated three runs in the last of the fifth and added two more in the sixth to hand the Lady Knights the 9-3 setback.
Avery Miller went the distance in the circle for Henryetta and was saddled with the pitching loss. The freshman hurler allowed nine runs - 2 earned - on nine hits with six strikeouts, two walks, and one hit batsman in six innings of work.
Katelyn Dwiggins led the offensive output for Henryetta, going 3 for 4 with a pair of singles, a double, and an RBI. Hulleah Wincle also recorded a multi-hit game for the Lady Knights, going 2 for 4 with a pair of singles. The other two base hits for Henryetta in the loss came on a single by Kaylie Hamric and an RBI single by Miller.
Other baserunners for HHS against Kellyville were Dwiggins (fielder's choice), Kasedi Gobin (error), Brittani Hembree (error), Jalynn Joslin (2 errors, fielder's choice), and Bailee Worlow (hit by pitch).
In Friday's first meeting with Morris, the Lady Knights opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first, then added two in the third and three in the fourth for a 6-0 advantage.
Morris tallied its two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a 2-run home run, cutting the Henryetta lead to four, 6-2, after five innings of action.
A 4-run top of the sixth put the finishing touches on the road win for the Lady Knights.
Avery Miller worked all seven innings in the circle to earn the pitching win for HHS. The freshman right-hander allowed two runs on just one hit, striking out 14, walking one, and hitting a batter in the complete-game victory.
Jalynn Joslin (3 for 5, 3 singles) and Bailee Worlow (3 for 4, 3 singles, RBI) led the offensive attack for Henryetta with three hits apiece.
Kasedi Gobin also had a multi-hit game for the Lady Knights, going 2 for 4 with two singles and an RBI.
The other base hits for Henryetta last Friday came on a single by Kaylie Hamric, an RBI single by Hulleah Wincle, an RBI double by Katelyn Dwiggins, and a 2-run double by Miller.

In Monday's home battle with Morris, the Lady Eagles took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first. The host Lady Knights answered with a run in the home half of the third to deadlock the score at 1-1 after three innings of action.
The Henryetta squad took the lead at 3-1 with a pair of runs in the last of the fourth.
Morris regained the lead at 4-3 with three runs in the top of the fifth, while Henryetta went back in front, 6-4, with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
Neither team produced any runs in the final inning and one-half of regulation to give the Lady Knights the 6-4 victory and the regular-season series. Avery Miller once again went the distance in the circle for Henryetta to earn the pitching win. The 'rookie' pitcher allowed four runs - all unearned - on five hits, striking out three and walking three in seven innings of work. Bailee Worlow went 3 for 4 with three singles to lead the Lady Knight offense. The other four hits for HHS against Morris were singles by Jalynn Joslin, Hulleah Wincle, and Kaylie Hamric and a 2-run double by Lexi Lollis.
