Wilson Public School Board of Education approved an extra duty contract that adds Vernie Thomas as Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at their Aug. 9 regular meeting.

Board members approved an opening for a paraprofessional for the three-year-old program.

They also approved signing a new contract with Casandra Borjon as a Speech Therapist for the 2018-2019 school year.

Various updated board policies were reviewed and approved as follows: FNG Wireless Telecommunication Devices; BBB School Board Member Terms of Office; BBH Development Opportunities for Board Member; BE Board of Education Meeting nad Notification Procedures; BEA School Board Meeting Agenda Preparation; BED-R Board of Education meeting Public Participation; BJCD Evaluation of the Superintendent; CDA Management and Investment of Funds; CHAE Termination of Lease Purchase Agreements; CKAE-R Drugs, Alcohol and Contraband Searches; CKHA Assaults on School Employes; DBCA Standards of Performance and Conduct for Teachers; DC Employment Practices; DEAC taxable Fringe Benefits on Employer Owned Vehicles; DEE-R Travel and Expenses; DLD Planning Periods; DO Termination of Employment; DPA Qualifications for Teachers; DPB Substitute Teachers; FB Sexual Harassment of Students; FNCB Bullying, Harassment and Intimidation.

The following updated board policies were tabled: BAAB Nepotism; BBA Board Member Qualifications; BEC Executive Sessions; CFB Activity Funds; CK Safety Program; CKC Disaster Drills; CKCB-R Bomb Threat Procedures; DABB Records Investigation; DECA Family Medical Leave; DNA Teacher Evaluation; DO=R Teacher Termination Procedures; DOAC Support Employees Suspension, Demotion, Nonrenewal or Termination; EHACA World War II Veterans Diplomas; EIA and EIA - form Promotion and Retention; EIED Graduation Requirements; FD Student Residency; FFACA Medication Administering to Students; FFG Reporting Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect; FL-R Compliance with Family Education RIghts and Privacy Act; FLD Student Directory Information; FL Information Coordinator; FOD Student Suspension; DPC Employee Children in the Workplace.

Board members approved rescending the following policies due to repetition: DQ Felony Check for All Hires and FFAAB-E HIV/AIDS medical Information Release Consent Form.

Approval of addition the following policies was also tabled: EHBDBA Parent Involvement in School; EK-R1 Testing Program, Student Surveys; FMC Student Clubs and Organizations; GJ, GJ-P School Visitors; Grievance Process and GJBA Student Recruitment/Military.

The Elementary Student Handbook and Middle School/High School Student Handbook were reviewed and approved.

Various items were declared for surplus (specific item list was not available).

Contracts for the 2018-2019 school year were signed by board members (contract list was not available).

Board members took no action on the approval of a contract with Donavan Goodno, pending certification.

Minutes of the July 9 and May 31 board meetings were reviewed and approved.

A Blanket Purchae Order for DIS to Stanley Systems and Wilson School for Game Officials in the amount of $1,325 from the General Fund for the Fiscal year 2018-2019 was accepted.

There were no purchase orders available for the bond fund.

Bids for the cafeteria for the 2018-2019 school year were opened (bids opened were not available).

An Alternative Education Waiver for the Fiscal Year 2018-2019 was reviewed and approved.

Board members also reviewed and approved purchase orders, encumbrances and warrants.

Attending the meeting were board members Jimmy Floyd, Pam Gaines, Travis Moore, Thomas Harjo and Dawnyell McKinney. Guests attending were Andrea James, Tena Page and Lori Edmundson.
