STUART - The Dewar Lady Dragon fastpitch softball team competed at the Stuart Invitational Fastpitch Softball Tournament last weekend.
The Lady Dragons gave it their best, but finished 2-2 at the 3-day event with the final setback coming by a 7-5 margin to Caney in the loser's bracket semifinals.
The Dewar ladies began the tournament with a 7-1 drubbing of the Crowder Demonettes in the opening round, then suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to the Ripley Lady Warriors in the winner's bracket semifinals.
The loss to Ripley put the Lady Dragons into the loser's bracket quarterfinals and a showdown with the host Stuart Lady Hornets. The Dewar diamond squad rebounded from their narrow setback to Ripley, edging past Stuart by a 6-5 margin to keep their tournament participation alive.
The Lady Dragons saw their tournament action end in the loser's bracket semifinals with the 2-run loss to the Caney Lady Cougars.
The Dewar ladies were back in action Monday at Canadian and were at home Tuesday against Weleetka. The Lady Dragons will close out the week Thursday in Council Hill and a showdown with the Midway Lady Chargers.

First Round
Dewar 7, Crowder 1
The Lady Dragons opened the scoring with a run in the home half of the first, then doubled their lead to 2-0 with a run in the bottom of the third. Crowder made it a 2-1 contest with a run in the top of the fourth, while Dewar put the game out of reach in the last of the inning, plating five runs in the frame before the game was called due to the time limit and the Lady Dragons in front by a 7-1 margin.
Skyler Randall earned the pitching win for Dewar, allowing one run on two hits, striking out four and walking two in four innings of work.
The top hitters for the Lady Dragons against Crowder were Randall (2 for 3, single, double, 2 RBIs), Savannah Been (2 for 3, 2 singles), and Skye Been (2 for 3, single, triple, 2 RBIs) with two hits apiece.
The other base hits for the Dewar squad were a single by Staejha Mack, an RBI single by Morgan Britt, and doubles by Autumn Campbell and KiKi Carter.
Other baserunners for the Lady Dragons in the opening round were Carter (walk), Noelani Corbin (walk), Kobee Hewett (hit by pitch), and Nakea Harjochee (walk).
---Semifinals
Ripley 5, Dewar 4
Ripley began the scoring with a run in the top of the first. The Lady Dragons took over the lead at 3-1 with three runs in the bottom of the inning and increased their advantage to 4-1 with a run in the home half of the second. After a scoreless third, Ripley plated four runs in the top of the fourth to regain the lead at 5-4. The Dewar ladies were unable to tally any runs in the last of the fourth to suffer the 5-4 setback.
Skyler Randall absorbed the pitching loss for Dewar, giving up five runs on four hits, striking out two and walking two in four innings of work.
Morgan Britt led the offensive attack for Dewar, going 3 for 3 with three singles and an RBI. Savannah Been (2 for 2, 2 singles) and Skye Been (2 for 2, 2 singles) also recorded multi-hit games for the Lady Dragons with two hits each.
The final two base hits for Dewar against Ripley came on a single by Staejha Mack and a 2-run double by Randall.
Other baserunners for the Lady Dragons in the semifinal loss were Skye Been (walk), Autumn Campbell (walk), and Kobee Hewett (fielder's choice).
---Loser's Bracket Quarterfinals
Dewar 6, Stuart 5
Stuart broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the second, then added two more runs in the top of the third for a 3-0 advantage. The Lady Dragons got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third with a run, then tied the score at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the last of the fourth. The host Lady Hornets regained the lead at 5-3 with two runs in the top of the fifth, while Dewar plated three runs in the home half of the inning to walk away with the 6-5 victory.
Morgan Britt went the distance in the circle for Dewar to earn the pitching win. The senior right-hander gave up five runs on two hits with three strikeouts and five walks in five innings of work.
The Lady Dragons were led offensively by Skye Been (2 for 2, 2 singles, RBI), Autumn Campbell (2 for 3, 2 singles), and Staejha Mack (2 for 3, 2 singles, RBI) with two hits apiece.
The other four hits for Dewar came on singles by Savannah Been and Noelani Corbin, a double by Britt, and a triple by Skyler Randall.
Savannah Been and Skye Been were the only other baserunners for the Lady Dragons with each hitter earning a walk in the contest.
---Loser's Bracket Semifinals
Caney 7, Dewar 5
The Lady Dragons led 3-1 after the first inning of action. After a scoreless second, Caney tallied five runs in the top of the third for a 6-3 advantage. Dewar answered with two runs in its half of the third to send the game into the fourth inning with the Lady Dragons trailing by one, 6-5. Caney added an insurance run in the top of the fifth, while the Dewar ladies were unable to produce any runs in the bottom of the fifth to suffer the 7-5 setback.
Skyler Randall gave up seven runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking two in five innings of work to suffer the pitching loss.
The trio of Randall (2 for 3, 2 singles), Savannah Been (2 for 3, 2 singles), and Staejha Mack (2 for 3, 2 singles) led the offensive production for Dewar with two hits apiece. The other base hits for the Lady Dragons came on singles by Skye Been, Morgan Britt, and Autumn Campbell and a 3-run home run in the first by Noelani Corbin.
Corbin also reached on an error and a walk in two other plate appearances against Caney, while Campbell also reached base on a walk. The only other baserunner for the Lady Dragons in the elimination game was Talyn Been, who reached on an error in the third.
