Okmulgee County continues to follow a downward trend with a decrease of 0.1 percent in unemployment reported by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. With an unemployment rate of 5.6 percent, Okmulgee County lingers near the highest unemployment rate. In June, Latimer County posted Oklahoma’s highest county unemployment rate of 7.5 percent, while McIntosh County reported the second highest with a rate of 7.1 percent. McCurtain county had the state’s third highest rate of 6.5 percent.
Beaver County claimed the lowest county unemployment rate of 2.3 percent followed by Grant County, Cimarron County and Love County. Unemployment rates in June were lower than a year earlier in 77 of 77 counties.
According to the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, Okmulgee reported a labor force of 16,547 with 15,619 employed and 928 unemployed. While in May Okmulgee had a labor force of 16, 369 with 15,437 employed and 932 unemployed.
Most surrounding counties also experienced this small drop in unemployment, except for McIntosh County which had a 0.4 percent increase in unemployment from May to June. The other surrounding counties reported the following unemployment rates in June:

Compared to 2017, Oklahoma as a state experienced a 0.4 percent drop in unemployment rate, reporting a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.9 percent. In June 2018, Oklahoma reported a labor force of 1,859,061 with 1, 786,898 employed and 72, 163 unemployed. The drop in unemployment is a downward trend that began in June 2017 where Oklahoma reported an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent. Since then, Oklahoma has continued to experience small drops in unemployment throughout the year, reaching 4.0 percent in March 2018.
In June, statewide seasonally adjusted employment increased by 5,805 persons (0.3 percent), while unemployment decreased by 1,641 persons (-2.2 percent). Over the year, seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell by 5,757 persons (-7.4 percent).
