Henryetta Lions Club member Kyle Kiner was Lion of the Day at the July 24 club meeting at The Shack on Main Street.

His special guest was Henryetta Elementary School Principal Jayme Matlock. She spoke briefly about her new position as elementary principal and also introduced seven out of 10 new elementary teachers to join the Henryetta Elementary faculty.

“I am so excited and proud of all the new people that have been brought aboard. I am thankful that all the new staff really cares about our kids,” Matlock said.

Teachers introduced were: Carli Beth (Lawless) Frye, Taci Sims, Nicki Story, Jenny Huckabay, Casey Saunders, Rachael Sweeden and Pam Palmer. Other new teachers not attending included Michelle Jobes, Colin Rogers and Jessica Sneed.

Matlock said that most don’t realize that teachers have vacation throughout the summer. Henryetta elementary faculty have been busy working on teaching strategies, cleaning and painting their classrooms and other things during summer.

She also announced that there will be an Open House at the schools on Aug. 14 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the first day of class is Aug. 16.

In tabled agenda items, the Lions Club voted unanimously to donate $200 to the School Trauma Kit Project lead by Alan Kerby. The donation will be for one large trauma kit with a cost of $125 and three smaller kits with a cost of $25 each.

Tail Twister Ashley Morris presented random trivia questions which included: How do crickets hear? How old was the youngest pope? Which animal sleeps only five minutes a day? Which planet rotates clockwise? and What part of the body perspires one-half of a paint of fluid a day?

Sherry Crosby announced that she enjoyed going to training for Lions Club last Saturday and was a little disappointed that more members were unable to attend.

Before adjourning, it was announced that money has been gathered for the tennis courts.
