Bible study,›July 28, 9:30 a.m.
Our study this week is titled, “The First Church Leaders,”
As the early church grew by leaps and bounds Satan endeavored› › to stop it’s progress by causing some of the Greco-Roman believers to feel neglected in the distribution of material goods, (Acts›4:34,35; 6:1).››Rather than allowing Satan to deter them from teaching and preaching the Word the apostles instructed that 7 men be selected to oversee the administration of the believers and their needs.› › They were to be distinguished by moral, spiritual and practical qualities, and to be filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom.
With these leaders in place the work continued to multiply greatly.› › These 7 also engaged in effective witnessing.››Indeed, Stephen’s powerful witness led to his death – the first Christian martyr, (Acts 7:55-60).
Through the persecution that was ignited at Stephen’s death the command to witness to Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth, (Acts 1:8), was fulfilled when the believers were scattered “and went everywhere preaching the Word,” (Acts 8:4).››Will it take as much to get us to fulfill our commission? (Matthew 28:19,20).›››
Study texts are Acts, chapters 6-8.
Worship service is at› 11 a.m.› Saturday› at both churches.››Midweek service is on Tuesday at›7:30›at the Maranatha church andThursday›at›6 p.m.›at the Okmulgee Church.
We welcome you to join us as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

St. Michael Catholic Church
7th›Sunday
(2Kings 4: 42-22/Eph. 4: 1-6/Jn. 6: 1-15)
This Sunday we began the reading of the sixth chapter of the Gospel according to John. Since the chapter is very long, seventy-one verses, the Church has divided it over five successive Sundays length though the chapter is, it forms a whole, its theme being the need for faith in Christ Jesus, and in his promise of the Eucharist.
As the story begins, we see that Jesus was followed by a very large crowd as he came to the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Jesus had attracted the people because of the miracles he had been working for the sick, but as evening grew on, Jesus became aware of a very ordinary, practical problem. The people had nothing to eat, and for most of them a long journey back home still lay before them. Jesus took upon himself the responsibility of feeding the people. He did so in a miraculous way! How did Jesus do this miracle? Andrew said to Jesus, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what good are these for thousands of people here? Jesus said, “Have the people recline…” Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and his Disciples distributed them to those who were reclining, and also as much of the fish as they wanted.” (Jn. 1-11)
The feeding of the five thousand in today’s Gospel is the only miracle that is recounted in all four Gospels. In fact, it is found twice in Matthew and Mark. The miracle of the multiplication of the loaves is important for many reasons, but namely, the Church believes that Jesus wanted to prepare for the institution of the Eucharist.
What purpose did Jesus have in mind when he instituted the Eucharist? Certainly, it was to satisfy human hunger for God. God provided Himself to all of us. We all have learned from the Bible that God became a human being like us in order to save us and gave us eternal life. It was not coincidence that John Evangelist and his fellow authors reported and explained the best they could about the feeding five thousand people with five bread and two fish. Jesus indeed has a purpose. So do the Church and us. Christ Jesus continues to ask each of us to share what we can to help others for many ways of human hunger.

Cleaning House By Mary Beth Morris
“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.› Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”› (Matthew 12:43-45)
Jesus' analogies are often obscure to us, and sometimes even His closest twelve didn't understand Him.› But this one seems plain enough for all of us!
How often do we see someone turn to Christ, only to see them fail?› How does that happen?› Who is at fault?
A "new" Christian is much like the Israelites as they fled Egypt:› they need detailed instruction and an overseer.› How easy it was for the Israelites to "fall from grace" when Moses went up on the mountain!› Aaron, left in charge, was a great talker but he was no leader.› Why, he asked for gold, threw it into the fire, and out leapt this golden calf!› Really, Aaron?› Really??
Faith in God is a learned habit.› It takes determination on the part of the new believer, and a whoooole lot of instruction by the oldsters.› A baby believer, one who is new, must have constant attention, so that corruption doesn't enter and start to grow.› Yes, the baby has a lot to overcome on its own.› But left entirely to its own devices, it's likely to turn savage.
As adult believers (although we're never perfected until we arrive at the throne of God), it is up to us to offer our services as housekeepers.› We must seek ways to include the babies, training them "in the way they should go," adopting them, gathering them in as a hen does chicks.› It not only helps the baby, but it also serves as checks and balances on our own behavior.
We're the model others shall see.› We do not want to be observed as a "wicked generation"!› In order to help the faithful, we must first make sure we're keeping our own house clean.›
