Okmulgee Sheriff’s Office responded to a call Monday about an unresponsive two-year-old child that was discovered by stepmother Brenda Clark. The child was transported to Okmulgee Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Office of the Medical Examiner discovered injuries consistent with child abuse including fractured ribs and skull. According to the pathologist, the injuries appear to have occurred several days ago possibly as much as two weeks.
Officer’s contacted the stepmother, Clark, who agreed to submit to an interview, but would not tell officer’s the circumstances surrounding the two-year-old’s death.
“However, she did admit to striking him on two separate occasions with a belt causing him to fall and hit his head,” court documents state. “She admitted to one of those incidents occurred yesterday and the other about two weeks ago.”
Consistent with what the pathologist’s reports documented.
Clark confessed to treating her children differently, stating that she did discipline the two-year-old while she did not do the same with her own, and further admitted that she had gone to far when hitting him with the belt, court documents said.
Clark is facing one complaint of Child Abuse with Injury and has had a $100,000 bond set. She will have her first court appearance before Judge Pandee Ramirez 2 p.m. Aug. 23.
