Okmulgee County Election Board Secretary Ashley Carnes announced that the voter registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 3 to be eligible to vote in the Aug. 28 State, Federal and County Runoff Primary Election and the Special Election for the City of Morris and Morris Public Schools.
Voters will decide on all of the following at the election:
• Corporation Commissioner (Democrat) – Blake Cummings or Ashley Nicole McCray;
• U.S. Representative Dist. 2 (Democrat) – Clay Padgett or Jason Nichols;
• Governor (Libertarian) – Rex L. Lawhorn or Chris Powell;
• Governor (Republican) – Kevin Stitt or Mick Cornett;
• Lt. Governor (Republican) – Matt Pinnell or Dana Murphy;
• State Auditor & Inspector (Republican) – Charlie Prater or Cindy Byrd;
• Attorney General (Republican) – Gentner Drummond or Mike Hunter;
• Superintendent of Public Instruction (Republican) – Linda Murphy or Joy Hofmeister;
• Commissioner of Labor (Republican) – Leslie Osborn or Cathy Costello;
• Corporation Commissioner (Republican) – Brian Bingman and Bob Anthony;
• City of Morris Proposition No. 1 – Shall the (Clerk, Treasurer, Clerk/Treasurer) be appointed by the Mayor, with approval of the Council?;
• City of Morris Proposition No. 2 – Shall we reduce the current number of city council member seats from eight (8) to four (4), which would include one council member per ward, effective in the general election year of 2021 and set terms of current council members set to expire in 2019 to extended to 2021?;
• Morris Public Schools Proposition – Shall Independent School District Number 3 of Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, incur an indebtedness by issuing its bonds in the sum of Four Million Six Hundred Eighty Five Thousand Dollars ($4,685,000) to provide funds to be issued in series for the purpose of constructing, equipping, repairing and remodeling school buildings, acquiring school furniture, fixtures and equipment and acquiring and improving school sites and levy and collect an annual tax, in addition to all other taxes, upon all the taxable property in such district sufficient to pay the interest on such bonds as it falls due and also to constitute a sinking fund for the payment of the principal thereof when due, said bonds to bear interest not to exceed the rate of ten (10%) percentum per annum, payable semi-annually and to become due serially within ten (10) years from their date?
Carnes said that persons who are U.S. citizens, residents of Oklahoma and at least 18 years of age may apply to become registered voters.
Those who aren’t registered or need to change their registration may apply by filling out and mailing an Oklahoma Voter Registration Application form in time for it to be postmarked no later than midnight Friday, Aug. 3.
Applications postmarked after that time will be accepted and processed, but not until after Aug. 28.
Okmulgee County Election Board responds in writing to every person who submits an application for voter registration. The response is either a voter identification card listing the new voter’s precinct number and polling place location or a letter that explains the reason or reasons the application for voter registration was not approved.
Carnes said any person who has submitted a voter registration application and who has not received a response within 30 days should contact the election board office.
Oklahoma Voter Registration Application forms are available at the election board ofice located at 314 W. 7th Street, Room 102 in Okmulgee and at most post offices, tag agencies and public libraries in the county. Applications are also available at: www.elections.ok.gov.
