St. Michael Catholic Church
14th Sunday
(Ez. 2: 2-5/2Cor. 12: 7-10/Mk. 6: 1-6)
From the Holy Scriptures the Genesis Book, we have learned that Adam and Eve disobeyed God who created them! Their original sin was the source of the giant river of evil flowing through human history, a stream to which we all make our personal contribution.
In the Gospel today, Mark evangelist reports to us that Jesus had made a big impact in other towns and villages, yet, when he came to his native village, Nazareth, his own people reject him. Why? They felt they “knew” all about him, and that there he had nothing to offer them.
There are many possibilities. Perhaps Jesus’ Nazarene people believed that no good could come out of Nazareth! It is a very small village! They may have found him too ordinary; “isn’t this the carpenter’s son?” They lack faith in him, not only in Jesus as a person, but also in themselves. What is this to us? We probably do not do anything as openly offensive as what the Nazarenes did. We do not take offense at Jesus or find him too much for us. We just take him for granted. We ignore him, or more likely, explain away his reaching, for example, about the need to love and care for one another. The Nazarenes rejected Jesus because they looked at Jesus as a human person, a native Nazarene no more no less! We have done many times in our lives like Nazarenes. We could not recognize or believe Jesus as God!
Life does not stand still. We all have a past, a present and a future. The same Jesus comes to visit us and all people in the world today and forever as he once became a human being like us, the Incarnation. So, too, the Church and religious practice. We must learn from our history unless we want to repeat the mistakes of history. We should cherish traditions, but we cannot freeze them. And we cannot live in the past; the only past event we can make present again is the life, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, which takes place in our life. We have chance to listen to him from the Holy Scriptures and others. We maybe not reject Jesus, but we sometimes could not recognize him and listen to his teachings in the Holy Scriptures and in others!
Thanks Jesus for giving us faith! We hopefully do not only see Jesus as a “young Jew,” a human person, but he is also God who is God became a human being in order to save all mankind sins.
May Jesus our God give us strong faith and help us to trust in him as God, and never reject him in our lives.

Bible study, June 30, 9:30 a.m.
“The Return of our Lord Jesus” is the title of our study this week, as well as the culmination of the history of this earth as we know it. That day will be a day of destruction, sorrow and turmoil for the lost, but a day of deliverance for all God’s people. This theme runs through both the Old and New Testaments.
Nothing is left of this old world after Jesus returns, but Jesus says, “Behold, I create new heavens and a new earth.” The new is not just a rearrangement of the old sinful and fallen world, but a new radically different creation, totally outside of, above and beyond life as we know it, where the faithful will dwell with God throughout eternity.
Study texts are Isaiah 65:17-19, 25; Daniel 2:34,35,44,45; 12:1-3; Malachi 4:1-3; Matthew 24:27, 29-31; Colossians 3:2-4; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; 5:1-6; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10; 2 Timothy 4:8; 2 Peter 3:11-13 and Revelation 21:1-5.
Worship service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at both churches. Midweek service is on Tuesday at 7:30 at the Maranatha church and Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Okmulgee Church.
We welcome you to join us as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We welcome you to join us as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Cornerstone: A Place to Run With Giants
If you were building a boat to haul a bunch of animals to a new destination—who would you want advice from? If you were needing to free people from the tyranny of an oppressive leader and help them reestablish their legacy in a land of plenty—who would you turn to for advice? Have you ever wanted to ask advice from someone who is good at what you are attempting to do, but they are not available to ask your them your question? Join us at Cornerstone this month as we embark on an exciting Summer Bible Series, Running with Giants. “In every generation there are people who are bigger than life as they discover or accomplish incredible leaps that ripple through time. “We have those types of people throughout the Bible,” says Mickey Baldwin, Lead Pastor at Cornerstone. He continues saying, ”There is nothing we can do to please God outside of faith (Hebrews 11:6). So, knowing that, we will learn from the GIANTS of FAITH declared in Hebrews chapter 11 in God’s Word. This will not be a series of mere recalling the historical accounts of our Fathers of Faith, but where we can grab the gems from their lessons in life and apply them to ours ‘by faith’. I will not teach for information, but for transformation for the Word of God is active to work it will in us.”
Be our guest this week for another CF Sunday. You will have opportunity to discover real Hope while you connect with God and His people. People who are just like you. People who are in a safe place to discover Hope to find and follow Jesus.
Pastor Mickey concludes saying, “Bringing Hope to find and follow Jesus is what we are about at CF. Hope that will bring about active faith to see our lives rebuilt on God’s promises. It is okay for you to bring your hurts, habits, and hang-ups here. Our hope is that you will trade them for God’s Blessings by discovering that God is close to the broken-hearted and that Jesus has paid the debt for our sins. Bring a friend and start this weekend to discover a stronger way of life in Christ.”

On Your Knees By Mary Beth Morris
I purchased a used CD at a thrift store recently. Yes, I actually buy compact discs. It was full of some the most beautiful and stirring praise songs. Being a word nerd, I naturally try to make out the lyrics the first time around. I was struck dumb at a phrase that went something like, "You're never stronger than when you're on your knees."
We celebrate freedom every July 4. But that freedom has come - - and remained -- at the highest price. Most of the many men and women who have paid the price for it and returned home don't expect us to give them a hearty slap on the back. Some even feel they've done little or nothing, having seen who they consider the real heroes lying motionless on the battlefield. But giving them all, alive or dead, honor and respect is our privilege and duty. They and their families sacrificed in a way we may never fully understand. We owe them everything.
You may have heard it said there are no atheists in foxholes. After hearing the words to that tune, it made quite the connection for me. Could that be how do soldiers get such superhuman strength to carry on?
Jesus was a soldier. He gave Himself so that we may be free of the sin and burden of this world. We are free from worry. We have not only freedom, but great peace, because Jesus sacrificed His life for us. Why do we not feel the same compulsion to honor Him as we do our military?
Jesus turned the world upside down. Everything He taught had, in some way, an idea that was counterintuitive to worldly thinking --including strength. Christ could have, at any time, called an entire battalion of angels to His aid, but He chose to remain meek and peaceful. And where did Jesus get the strength to carry out His final orders? He prayed. Remember? In the garden before His arrest, as He prayed so hard His sweat was literally drops of blood. If Jesus, who had such power, needed to pray for courage, what makes you think you should be any different?
This is how we honor our Savior. In prayer. All the time. Whatever the circumstance: whether tears or laughter, joy or pain. It isn't weakness, it's great strength. "You're never stronger than when you're on your knees."
