The Dewar Dragon football team will kick off their 2018 season on Friday, August 31 at Strother.
The season opener with Strother will be a rematch of last year's Class B playoff opener in Dewar which the Dragons won by a 46-0 margin.
The Dewar squad is looking to have the same success in 2018 as they did last year and punch their ticket to their sixth-consecutive postseason appearance.
Before the season kicks off on August 31, the Henryetta Free-Lance would like to take a look back at the Dragons' 2017 football season.

HENRYETTA - The Dewar Dragons opened their 2017 varsity football season this past Friday against county rival, the Wilson Tigers.
The Dragons picked up their fourth-straight season-opening win with a 78-6 decision over the host Tigers.
Dewar's Joey Fowler had an outstanding 'rookie' debut last Friday. The Dragon freshman quarterback recorded four touchdowns in his first high school football game.
Fowler rushed for one score, threw for two more, and also found the end zone on defense.
Fowler finished 4 of 5 passing for 135 yards and 2 TDs in his debut as the Dragon signal caller.
Junior Rhett Whitlow, who served as the starting quarterback last season, also found the end zone four times during the season-opening win. Whitlow hauled in both TD passes from Fowler and also had a defensive touchdown in the contest. Whitlow's other score came on special teams.
Boogie Brown and Josh Maldonado each had a pair of rushing touchdowns for Dewar, while the final tally for the Dragons came from Baylor Selby on defense.
In total, the Dragons recorded seven offensive touchdowns, three defensive touchdowns, and one special teams touchdown.
Kelby Carter split the uprights with four PAT kicks for Dewar. The Dragons converted four of five 2-point conversions in the contest.

GANS - The Dewar Dragons gave the Gans Grizzlies a little case of 'Boogie Fever' this past Friday night in their non-district showdown.
Dewar senior Boogie Brown rushed for 230 yards on 16 carries and 3 TDs in the Dragons' 51-12 victory over the host Grizzlies.
Joey Fowler continued to have a stellar start to his 'rookie' season at Dewar High School, as the freshman QB completed 5 of 7 pass attempts for 88 yards and two scores and also rushed nine times for 92 yards and one TD in the Week 1 contest.
The night, however, belonged to Brown, who found the end zone once in each of the first three quarters.

DEWAR - The Dewar Dragons improved to 3-0 on the 2017 season with a one-sided victory this past Friday night at Dr. Ted Lewis Stadium.
The double-digit win in the Dragons' home opener came against the Allen Mustangs by a 45-18 margin.
The Dewar squad began the 2017 season with back-to-back road games at Wilson (Henryetta) and Gans, earning 30-plus point victories.
In last Friday's home opener against Allen, the offensive duo of Boogie Brown and Joey Fowler continued their stellar seasons. Brown had 136 yards rushing on 20 carries and one TD and caught one pass for 18 yards.
Fowler rushed for 100 yards on 15 carries and score two touchdowns in the contest. The freshman signal caller also completed 11 of 18 passes for 241 yards and one touchdown. Fowler also threw his first interception of his high school career in the home opener.

COYLE - The Dewar Dragons improved to 4-0 in 2017 following a 60-14 dismantling of the Coyle Bluejackets here last Friday night.
The Dewar offense proved to be a nightmare for Coyle's defense in the mercy-rule win that ended with 5:57 left in the third quarter, finishing with 524 yards of total offense. The Dragons rushed 25 times for 295 yards and three scores, while freshman quarterback Joey Fowler torched the Coyle defense for 229 yards through the air, completing 12 of 16 passes for 229 yards and 4 TDs.
Senior tailback Boogie Brown had his second-best rushing performance in 2017 in last Friday's win, rushing for 198 yards on 13 carries and one TD.
Two weeks ago against Gans, Brown rushed for 230 yards on 16 carries and scored three times on the ground.
The 229-yard passing performance by Fowler was a second-best for the 'rookie' signal caller this year. Fowler tossed a season-high 241 yards last week against Allen on 11-of-18 passing.
Rhett Whitlow recorded a 100-yard performance in the receiving department for the second time in 2017 last Friday, hauling in four passes for 116 yards and 2 TDs. Whitlow also had a 100-yard performance in the season opener against Wilson when the junior wideout caught a pair of TD passes that equaled 110 yards.

Dewar suffers first loss of 2017 with 44-42 setback
DEWAR - The Dewar Dragons suffered their first defeat of the 2017 season this past Friday night.
The first loss of 2017 came at the hands of the Class B No. 3 Davenport Bulldogs, 44-42, at Dr. Ted Lewis Stadium.
The Dragons earned wins in their first four games this year, winning by a combined 234-50 with the most points given up in a game being 18 in a 45-18 win over Allen in Week 2.
As a team, Dewar finished with 492 yards of total offense, including 222 yards rushing.
Brown led the Dragons' rushing attack with 135 yards on 28 carries and two scores. Fowler was next in the rushing department for Dewar with 86 yards on 11 carries and two TDs.
Fowler completed 15 of 23 passes for 270 yards and 2 TDs for the Dragons in the contest, while Loyd was the top receiver for Dewar with eight catches for 140 yards and one score. Whitlow caught five passes for 94 yards and one TD.

DEWAR - The Dewar Dragons made their first step towards their first district championship since 2014 last Thursday night at Dr. Ted Lewis Stadium.
The Dragons scored their first district win of 2017 with a hard-fought 30-14 victory over the visiting Wetumka Chieftains.
The 16-point win came in the first District B-6 contest for both squads and pushed Dewar's season record to 5-1.
The Dragons will return this Friday with a trip to Del City and a non-district contest against the Destiny Christian Wildcats.
The win over Wetumka puts the Dewar squad in a tie for first in the B-6 standings with Canadian.
The Dragons finished with 439 yards of total offense, including 366 yards on the ground. Brown led the Dewar rushing attack with 37 carries for 249 yards and one score. Fowler accounted for the other 117 yards rushing on 15 carries and 3 TDs.
Fowler completed 7 of 11 passes for 73 yards with two interceptions.
The top receiver for Dewar was Braxton Loyd with four catches for 57 yards.

Dewar sets sights on district championship after
non-district finale
DEL CITY - The Dewar Dragons closed out their non-district schedule last Friday night against the Destiny Christian Wildcats.
The Dragons rode the legs of senior running back Boogie Brown, as well as the right arm of freshman quarterback Joey Fowler, to a hard-fought 42-40 victory in their non-district finale.
For the second-straight game, Brown rushed for almost 250 yards in a contest, finishing with 245 yards on 39 carries and 2 TDs.
For the third time this year, Fowler threw for more than 200 yards in a game, completing 8 of 19 passes for a season-high 256 yards. Three of Fowler's eight competitions went for touchdowns.
Braxton Loyd also had a career night for the Dragons, hauling in five passes for 132 yards and two scores. Fowler's other TD pass went for 58 yards to Rhett Whitlow.
The 2-point win puts the Dewar squad at 6-1 on the year.
Dewar is currrently tied with Canadian for first in the B-6 standings at 1-0, followed by Weleetka at 1-1 and Wetumka at 0-2.

WELEETKA - The Dewar Dragons inched closer to capturing the B-6 district championship with a 64-36 win over the Weleetka Outlaws last Thursday at Outlaw Stadium.
The win over their Okfuskee County foes improves the Dragons' season record to 7-1, 2-0 in district play. Weleetka fell to 4-4 on the year, 1-2 in district action. As it stands right now, Dewar sits atop the B-6 standings at 2-0. Canadian is second at 1-1, followed by Weleetka and Wetumka tied for third at 1-2. (Weleetka holds the tiebreaker due to a 36-0 win in Week 8) The Dragons finished with 551 yards of total offense in the win over Weleetka, including 364 yards on the ground on 58 carries. Brown recorded his third-straight 200-plus rushing performance in the win, finishing with 220 yards on 32 carries and 3 TDs. Fowler was next for the Dragons in the rushing department with 105 yards on 22 carries and 3 TDs. Whitlow had two carries for 17 yards and a score for Dewar, followed by Kelby Carter, who had one carry for 16 yards. Loyd rounded out the rushing totals for the Dragons with one carry for six yards. Fowler completed 8 of 17 passes for 187 yards and one score to increase his season passing total to 1,479 yards on 70-of-116 passing. Whitlow was the top receiver for the Dragons with four catches for 127 yards and one score. Loyd had two receptions for 47 yards in the win, while Carter had the other two catches for Dewar for 13 yards. ---

DEWAR - The Dewar Dragons captured their first district championship since 2014 last Friday at home against the Canadian Cougars. The Dragons put up a season-best 82 points and amassed over 800 yards of total offense in their 82-34, mercy-rule, victory in the regular-season finale at Dr. Ted Lewis Stadium. Dewar's lopsided win over Canadian guaranteed that the Dragons will play their first two postseason games in front of their home crowd, beginning tonight (Friday) against the Strother Yellowjackets in the opening round of the Class B playoffs. In last Friday's regular-season finale against Canadian, the Dragons set season highs in rushing yards, passing yards, total offense, and points scored. The Dewar offense finished with 824 yards in the regular-season finale. The Dragons ran the football 41 times for a season-best 434 yards and 6 TDs and completed 13 of 17 passes for a season-best 390 yards and 5 TDs. Senior running back Boogie Brown finished with a season-high 306 yards rushing in last Friday's contest and scored five of the Dragons' 6 rushing touchdowns against the Cougars. Freshman quarterback Joey Fowler also had an impressive offensive output for the Dragons last Friday, completing 12 of 15 passes for 380 yards and 5 TDs. Ten of Fowler's 12 completions were hauled in by the duo of Braxton Loyd and Rhett Whitlow for 373 yards and 5 TDs. Loyd was tops in the receiving department for Dewar with five catches for 201 yards and 2 TDs, while Whitlow was next for the Dragons with five receptions for 172 yards and three scores. Fowler also completed a 5-yard pass to Kelby Carter and a 2-yard pass to Brett Hayes in the contest. The final completion for the Dragons last Friday came on a 10-yard connection from Josh Maldonado to James Brison. ---

DEWAR - The Dewar Dragons rode the legs of senior tailback Boogie Brown to a 46-0, mercy-rule, victory here last Friday night against the Strother Yellowjackets. Brown recorded his fifth-straight 200-yard game - and sixth in 2017 - on the ground this season in the Dragons' Class B opening-round win over the Yellowjackets at Dr. Ted Lewis Stadium. Brown carried the ball 25 times last Friday, rushing for 282 yards and 4 TDs in the playoff opener that ended at halftime due to the 45-point mercy rule. Brown's other games of 200 or more rushing yards came against Gans (16 carries, 230 yards, 3 TDs), Wetumka (37 carries, 249 yards, TD), Destiny Christian (39 carries, 245 yards, 2 TDs), Weleetka (32 carries, 220 yards, 3 TDs), and Canadian (20 carries, 306 yards, 5 TDs). Brown narrowly missed the 200-yard plateau against Coyle, finishing with 198 yards rushing on 13 carries and one score. As a team, the Dragons finished with 391 yards rushing on 39 carries and 5 TDs. The sixth and final Dewar score last Friday came on a touchdown pass from freshman QB Joey Fowler to James Brison in the second quarter. The Dewar defense held Strother to 30 yards of total offense last Friday. The Yellowjackets had six yards total rushing and one catch for 24 yards in the passing game. The Dragons recorded five takeaways on defense in the playoff opener - four fumbles and one interception. Brown, Brison, Jeremy Dunn, and Baylor Selby each came away with fumble recoveries for Dewar, while the lone interception was hauled in by Shawn Maxwell, who led the team in tackles with seven. Maxwell also recorded two quarterback sacks in the contest for Dewar. With the shutout win over Strother, the Dragons now advance to the second round of the Class B playoffs and will host the Prue Rockets this Friday. ---

DEWAR - The 2017 season came to a close here last Friday for the Dewar Dragon varsity football team. The season-ending setback came against the Prue Rockets by a 60-56 margin the second round of the Class B state playoffs at Dr. Ted Lewis Stadium. The Dragons finish 2017 with a 9-2 record, which included their first district championship since 2014 and a perfect 3-0 district record. As a team, Dewar finished with 584 yards of total offense on 92 plays. The Dragons ran the football 71 times for 463 yards - both season highs - and completed 7 of 21 passes for 121 yards. Boogie Brown ran the ball 40 times for 341 yards - both season highs - and 4 TDs in his final high school football game in a Dewar uniform. Brown finishes the 2017 season with 2,430 yards rushing on 273 carries and 28 TDs. Joey Fowler was next in the rushing department for Dewar, finishing with 27 carries for 95 yards and two scores. Fowler was 7-of-21 passing for 121 yards and 2 TDs in his final game as a high school 'rookie'. Fowler's final stats for 2017 feature 132 carries for 796 yards and 17 TDs on the ground and 95-of-160 passing for 2,080 yards with 23 TDs and four interceptions.
